There are many websites in the online community, but, are all of them good? This step by step guide will help you determine whether or not the website you are looking at is a credible site or not. By following these guidelines, it will help you now or in the future with your own business website, here are the 7 steps:
1) Design2) Branding
3) Content
4) Functionality
5) Accuracy
6) Links
7) Social Media
Design – The design aspect of a website is important. If someone visits your website and does not like what they see, they will leave within a few seconds. Your design needs to be eye-catching yet clean.
Branding – You want to be known, so make sure your colors and company logo are visible on the site . . . on multiple pages, not just the homepage. Make sure everything is consistent not only online, but in your paper products (business cards, brochures, etc.) as well.
Content – Ever hear the saying, “Content is King” well, that is because it is. Constantly update your information and keep things current and interesting. If you update your content that will drive more traffic to your site and keep people coming back for more.
Functionality – How many times have you gone to a site and left because you haven’t found what you were looking for? Pretty often, huh? Make sure everything is in the usual order and place on the site because you do not want the About Us section under Services or else no one will find it.
Accuracy – Accuracy is extremely important because it shows you care about your website. If something is dated from 3 years ago, or even 3 weeks ago, the readers do not get the best opinion of your site. Keep updating and improving, and you will be fine!
Links – Do all of your links work? How frustrating is it when you go to a site for something specific and the link is not working? The readers are most likely not going to come back to check at a later date and you (and they) just lost out on something important. Review your own website!!
Social Media – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube . . . these are all social media outlets that are very useful in today’s world. Company’s use them as a promotional tool, or just to get new information updated quicker. Social Media is a must-have item on a website to keep everyone informed.
Although there are many more aspects to consider a website “good” and “credible” these were just a few to get you started. Now go search a few sites and see what you find!
